Small studio. Long games.
Joyixir has been making puzzle games from Tallinn since 2020. We are small enough that whoever designs a level is usually the same person fixing it at midnight, and we have never wanted to be much bigger.
Our first game is still running. Kalamatic went out in 2019 and we are still shipping updates to it — six thousand levels later, in eleven languages, mostly for people who play it on the bus every morning. That is the kind of game we are trying to make again.
Before the puzzles there were a few years of hyper-casual work, including a game we built for Voodoo that passed ten million installs. It taught us how to finish things quickly. We would rather use that now to finish things properly.
What we hold to
- Generous early, honest late
- The first twenty levels should make you feel clever. After that the game should stop flattering you.
- No timer unless the timer is the puzzle
- Most of our games can be put down mid-thought and picked up a day later.
- Readable before it is hard
- You have to be able to see a solution before you can be asked to find one.
